Ved bedømmelsen af prøvepræstationen vil der blive lagt vægt på i hvor høj grad den studerende
This course examines important normative discourses that implicitly and explicitly accompany health services, health interventions and specific health care services. Examples of moral discourse influencing prevention programmes include the privilege given to promotion of abstinence over access to condoms by the US Government in global HIV prevention programmes; the general obligation to stay fit and healthy promoted in various health campaigns such as smoking cessation programmes; and the values involved in legislation to regulate medical termination of pregnancy. The latter explicitly overlaps with discussions in medical ethics, but this course will look at medical ethics itself as a field of study and review anthropological contributions towards a richer, ethnographically grounded understanding of ethical issues involved in medical practice. Furthermore, in relation to medical ethics debates concerning principles of 'justice' and 'equity', the course will study the possibilities and implications of health seen as a human right globally and across specific local contexts. Please note that the specific examples mentioned above (HIV, smoking, abortion) may be taken up or may be replaced by other interesting cases in the final course plan.
