Formål

Qualifications

The student gains qualifications in the form of knowledge, understanding and skills within the following areas:

  • A command of key terminology, concepts, theories, and methodology used in the core courses.

 

Competences

Through working on the subject matters, the student obtains academic and social competences regarding to:

 

  • Identifying relevant methods and perspectives to solve specific problems within each discipline;
  • Applying knowledge to select cases;
  • Working in international teams within the course structure;
  • Reflecting on individual strengths and weaknesses within the course structure;
  • Designing projects to match requirements given in exams;
  • Short-term time management.

Indhold

The first part of the course provides a general understanding of management, with an overview of organizational and management theory. This includes themes such as organizational behaviour, structure and design, leadership and motivation theory. Part of this course is linked to other core courses in that it views the organizations historical context, political and legal environment and culture both as a constraint and as an opportunity.

 

The second part of the course focuses on the process of organizational decision-making and the economic methods used during this process,   which includes themes like:

  • Planning, budgeting and control, including an overview of managerial accounting.
  • Decision-making. Rationality and organizational and personal limitations to rational behaviour and decision-making.
  • Calculation of the costs and benefits of a decision, including a basic understanding of cost theory derived from economic theory.
Economic calculation methods and basic investment theory, including techniques like break-even analysis and net present value
