Formål

The objective of the course is to provide the student with knowledge about research and central theories within the areas of logistics, supply chain management and strategic planning, and in addition, the objective is to enable the student to give an account of this knowledge, use this knowledge in the terms of the issues related to the subject area as well as to formulate an account of the knowledge in a scientific way on completion of the course.

· To give the student a common frame of reference and a clear understanding of logistics management, that part of Supply Chain Management (SCM) that plans, implements and controls the efficient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet customers' requirements

· To give the student a basic understanding of SCM so that he/she is able to participate in the adjustment/development of the total value chain by means of which a proactive attitude to the increased globalisation/competition is adopted. Putting into a strategic SCM-perspective this course gives the student an understanding of how and why transaction costs, relation building across organizational boundaries, postponement, mass customization, and not least increased flexibility contribute to and influence value-creation and competitiveness in the value chain.

· The student must be given a common frame of reference and a clear understanding of strategic planning with focus on the planning process including: Ways in which strategy development can be understood and explained. The forces which influence strategy development; how these factors guide strategic choices at the corporate level and how the strategic position of an organisation and the strategic choices open to it can be managed into organisational action. The course gives the student a broad foundation for constructive participation in the strategy development process.
