Formål

The purpose of International Managerial Economics is that the student acquires knowledge about the core concepts within the subject of Business Economics. Furthermore the purpose is that the student after ended the course is able to explain the core concepts within the subject of Business Economics, so that the student learns to use them in solving specific problems in Business Economics.

Indhold

The course consists of a series of courses and a series of tutorials, as described in the timetable contained in the Study Guide. There is a continuous and close connection between the course content and the assignments the students tackle in the tutorials.

 

A series of topics from classical Managerial Economics are treated:

 

· The production function and production theory.

· Different cost types, the cost structure of the business. Cost functions.

· Demand and different types of markets.

· Optimizing models on different markets and under different production forms.

· The price policies and the product policies of the enterprise.

 

The organizational theory will be considered from the following viewpoint:

 

· Designing organizational architecture

· Application of organizational architecture

 

Strategy will be considered under the following viewpoint:

 

· Management strategy

· External analysis and internal analysis

 

Under Capital Budgeting and Financial Theory among other factors the following will be considered:

 

· Time value of money

· Using Discounted Cash-Flow Analysis to make Investment Decisions

· Rules of Finance

· Financing with Equity Capital

· Financing with Debt Capital

· Evaluation of Loans

 

 

In the series of tutorials the students work in groups with specific issues arising from the courses. The students are presented with both very specific problems, to which they are asked to find specific solutions as well as so-called open problems where unambiguous answers are not given. In the series of exercises, there is also training in the overall techniques of Business Economics reasoning.

Personal development

The aim is to develop specific skills in defining, forming an overview of, and solving specific, practical problems in Business Economics. The student must be given a fundamental understanding of the fact that the world of Business Economics is partial and that the solutions will always be partial. The student must, therefore, be able to give an account of the assumptions that certain solutions are based upon, as well as to evaluate the robustness of the solutions in the event of changes in the assumptions.

The courses: MAT1, OPE1 must have been passed by the student.

Requirements for passing an examination

During the two semesters the groups must make a number of group presentations. The completion of these presentations must be evaluated as "passed" in order to participate in the examinations activities below.

 

The total examination includes the following two part examinations:

 

1) A group project (4 to 6 students) after the 1 st semester - weighting 50%. Individual examination.

2) A group project (4 to 6 students) after the 2 nd semester - weighting 50%. Individual examination.

 

The maximum amount of pages for these group projects is 20 and they will form the basis of an individual oral examination.

 

At both examination activities there will be an internal examiner.

 

One total mark is given according to the 7-step scale. The set of mark must be 02 or above. Each individual mark for the part examination must be 02 or above.

Criteria for achieving objectives

· The student must be able to give an account of the acquired knowledge within the subject area by cumulatively to

· demonstrate adequate knowledge of literary approaches to the subject

· demonstrate wider and more detailed knowledge of literary approaches to the subject

· demonstrate systematized and comparative knowledge of literary approaches to the subject

· discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each individual approach and its arguments on a literary, systematic basis

· Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each individual approach and its arguments on a not necessarily literary, systematic basis.

 

· In addition, the student must be able to use own acquired knowledge within the subject area by cumulatively to

· demonstrate adequate knowledge of single literary approaches to issues related to the subject (adequate to be able to identify, term and paraphrase)

· demonstrate wider and more detailed knowledge of literary approaches to issues related to the subject (wider and more detailed to be able to identify, term and paraphrase)

· demonstrate systematized and comparative knowledge of literary approaches to issues related to the subject (to be able to describe, list)

· discuss the strengths and weaknesses of different literary approaches for solving issues and their solution contribution in a literary way (to be able to understand, explain, analyze, use)

· Think out, discuss and argue independently for approaches to issues and/or demonstrate independent formation of hypothesis, concept and model in a not necessarily literary way (to be able to generate, theorize, form hypotheses, reflect, put into perspective).

 

· Finally, the student must be able to formulate the knowledge within the subject area by cumulatively to

· give an account of knowledge and use of knowledge in an easily understandable way

· give an account of knowledge and use of knowledge in a well-structured way and with good efficiency (only include content which is relevant to the subject)

· give an account of knowledge and use of knowledge in a clear and explicit didactic, explanation- and/or comprehension-oriented with meta communication when necessary and well-placed. Is able to apply scientific standard modes of expression adapted to - or developed in relation to the subject and the task.

Bedømmelse

2 individual oral exams on the basis of two written group reports
