Formål

Læringsmål

To make the student capable of:

An understanding of air movements, heat and mass transfer in rooms with consideration on improvement of air quality and climate for animal and plants.

An understanding of ventilation system design and control strategies for climate in livestock houses.

Be able to calculate and analyze environmental relations and physical parameters in greenhouse (irradiance, water vapour, CO 2 , ventilation and energy consumption).

Be able to analyze and compare different methods of climatic control in livestock buildings and greenhouse and the influence on animal welfare and plant growth and development and the use of resources (e.g. energy).

An understanding of interaction between greenhouse climate and plants by carrying out simple calculations (e.g. energy balance).

Acquire knowledge about sensors and measuring techniques used in the control of climate in livestock buildings and greenhouse.

Indhold

The course gives a fundamental introduction to thermal environments in livestock buildings and greenhouses and the effects on animal welfare, production and plant growth.

The course gives an insight of air quality control in livestock houses with focus on ventilation control and its influence on ammonium emission and dust. The fundamentals of system design of ventilation and regulation methods of ventilation shall be addressed.

The students are introduced to greenhouse climate and energy relations in regard to plant growth and development. An objective of the course is to give the student an insight in methods for climatic manipulation of plant response. An important factor is the interaction between greenhouse climate and the plants because of energy transformation through transpiration.

Specific sensors used in livestock housing and greenhouse will be introduced with a brief review of their function and characteristics.
