Formål
The student can design a minor automatic control system, including system analysis, choice of control strategy, controller tuning and implementation. For major systems, the student can communicate in an effective and professional manner with mechanical or electrical specialists, e.g. M.Sc. in Mechatronic Engineering.
Læringsmål
After completing this course the student are capable
-
to
descripe
system modelling and
select
a simulation
-
to
explain
the principles of open and closed loop control
-
to
understand
process control and servo control
-
to
select
design specifications (e.g. stability, speed, accuracy, rise time, settling time)
-
to
descripe
P, PI, PD and PID control
-
to
understand
multi loop control (cascade control, feed forward control and ratio control)
-
to
discuss
practical considerations about PID control (structure, implementation, integral windup)
-
to
test
a system and
use
experimental controller tuning
-
to
explain
digital control (structure, hardware, programming)
Indhold
This course gives an insight into the various aspects of automatic control. The following points are included:
-
technology of control systems (sensors, controller, actuators)
-
Control schemes (single loop, multi loop, analog control, digital control)
-
Analysis of system response
-
Controller tuning

Undervisnings- og arbejdsform
The teaching method will be organised as problem-based learning. The course will consist of a mixture of expositions of the theoretical matter combined with different problem-based project reports. The course consists of different parts:
-
Lectures
-
exercises, with or without software
-
presentations by students of case studies
-
laboratory work
English.
