This is an introductory course on photochemistry, photophysics, and photobiology.
We discuss commonly encountered chemical processes that are initiated by light. We also discuss physical processes, such as fluorescence, phosphorescence, and energy transfer that compete with photoinitiated chemical reactions. Experimental techniques used to monitor photophysical processes are also presented. A discussion of applications in biological systems underscrores the relevance of the material.
At the end of the course, the students must:
· be able to understand and appreciate work that is performed at the forefront of research in photosciences.
Physical Chemistry, Molecular Spectroscopy and Chemical Bonding, Organic Chemistry.
