Formål
The purpose of this course is to give the students an introduction to the physics of the nervous system, including neurons, neural networks and the representation and processing of information.
Indhold
-
Properties of neurons, Hodgkin and Huxley, Integrate-and-Fire models
-
Generation/propagation of bioelectricity, multi-compartment models
-
Neural networks: feedforward/recurrent networks, supervised and unsupervised learning, associative memory
-
Neural coding: spike trains, entropy, population code, Bayesian inference.
Faglige forudsætninger
Experience with MATLAB or similar is an advantage. Access to MATLAB.

Læringsmål
Upon completion of this course, the students are expected to be able to:
-
Explain properties of neurons and apply them to obtain various physical models of neurons.

Perform calculations involving neural networks and be able to derive proofs of learning rules.
-
Discuss models and analyze theoretical aspects of memory and learning.
-
Reflect on aspects of neural coding and decoding and explain neural circuit design .
Bedømmelse
Two days take-home assignment. Grading according to the 7-point scale. Internal evaluation.
