Formål

 

In the evaluation of the student's examination performance, emphasis is placed on evaluating the extent to which the student:

-                    demonstrates knowledge of the European Union, its historical development and political framework;

-                    demonstrates understanding of what the European Union is, and what the effects of it are;

-                    shows the ability to choose, apply and critically assess relevant theories and concepts in the analysis of the European Union.

Indhold

 

The objective is to provide the student with a thorough introduction to analysing the European Union. The course examines key historical and contemporary dimensions in the European Union such as treaties, enlargements, and changes in its political institutions, decision-making processes and policy areas. The course also examines main theoretical approaches and concepts used in interdisciplinary academic debates about the European Union. This will enable the student to critically analyse and assess what the European Union is, trajectories towards its emergence, and contemporary political, economic, social or cultural issues with relevance to it.

Undervisnings- og arbejdsform

Teaching will typically take place as lectures combined with classroom teaching. During classroom teaching emphasis is given to work processes enabling the students to discuss and reflect on lectures and texts, and it is expected that students contribute actively to the learning environment. The teaching and final examination will consist of a curriculum of 1100 to 1300 pages of standard text.

The examination is an oral exam on a set topic, and lasts 30 minutes including time for grading.

The assignment is handed out 24 hours in advance of the time of examination, which allows the student to prepare an oral presentation of no more than 10 minutes to be delivered at the beginning of the examination. The rest of the time will consist of dialogue between the two examiners and the student.
