Det er målet med kurset at den studerende kan:
-Redegøre for, sammenligne og diskutere forskellige forståelse af relationerne mellem innovation,teknologi og samfund.
Studiet af hvordan teknologi virker sammen med samfundet er vigtigt for beslutningstagere, designere, forskere, brugere og borgere. Det er kursets mål at præsentere forskellige perspektiver på innovation, teknologi og samfund for herved at vise de forskellige relationer, der er mellem disse, og hvorledes de konstant forandrer sig. Nogle af disse perspektiver yder umiddelbare og selvfølgelige beskrivelser af innovation og teknologi, mens andre omformer den måde hvorpå, vi forstår og tilgår teknologi og innovation. Kurset søger at anvende brede definitioner af innovation og teknologi for at sætte de studerende i stand til både at genkende og erfare teknologi i mangfoldige organisations- og samfundsområder og begribe unikke betydninger af innovation.. Vor forståelse af, hvad teknologi er og gør udfordres konstant, og i en teknologisk fortættet virkelighed konstitueres samfund og socialitet på nye provokerende måder. Kurset er bygget op omkring to hoveddele, der begge afsluttes med en mindre skriftlig opgave. Første del, Innovationsstudier, præsenterer dels tematikker omkring innovation i sammenhæng med nationalstater, økonomi og læring, dels tematikker om innovation i organisationer og brugeres rolle heri. Anden del præsenterer teorier til forståelse og analyse af teknologi og videnskab bredt med udgangspunkt i Social Construction of Technology (SCOT) og Aktør-netværksteori (ANT).
