Formål

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES :

After participation in this course, students should be able to:

 

  • 1) Explain how organizational structures influence the way a company solves its problems/tasks (internal design elements).

 

  • 2) Describe and compare different company structures and their advantages/ disadvantages.

 

  • 3) Explain different contingency contents (environments, strategy, size, culture and technology) and reflect on their influence on company organizational structures.

 

  • 4) Compare different subdivisions of the company's internal dynamic organizational processes (conflict resolution, culture, innovation and changes, and decision-making processes).

 

  • 5) Reflect on their choice for using several different company structures, giving reasons relevant for parts of as well as for the entire company in a given situation (unknown case).

 

Indhold

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is intended to provide the individual student with insights into ways of designing the organization of a firm. It also aims to provide the student with analytical tools to determine the influence of internal demands and challenges, the surrounding world, technology and the individual on the firm's choice of organization design. The course will also enable the students to understand and analyse the internal organization processes that are specific to the chosen organization design.

 

COURSE CONTENTS AND SUBJECT AREAS :

 

  • 1) Basic organization theory incl. purpose

          (organizations, organization theory, design, efficiency)

 

  • 2) Organizations as open systems

          (environments, interorganizational relations, technology

 

  • 3) Design elements of the internal organization

          (life cycle, size, culture, ethics)

 

  • 4) Structure of the future

          (interorganizational relations, organizational learning, organizational structures of the new economy)
