Topics in Economics and Management is a special course of study used as an umbrella for students writing a paper in a topic of their choice, for instance, under circumstances where there is not enough students for a lecture series. The subject of the paper must be accepted by a faculty member who acts as a supervisor.
The paper may form the basis for an oral examination as decided by the supervisor. When the topics paper has been accepted and the student has handed in two copies to the supervisor, the student will also have signed up for the topics exam. When an oral examination is required, the supervisor will inform the student about the
exact time of the examination.
First two years of BSc or BA studies in economics and management.
Faculty member from the relevant subject area of the topic paper.
At the beginning of the semester students who want to prepare a Topics paper should contact a professor (to become the supervisor) to discuss the contents of the topic. The topic must be agreed on with the supervisor, who may also provide a list of possible required reading. The paper (10 pages at most) must be handed in to the supervisor on the date agreed upon with him/her.
Home assignment. By choice of the supervisor, an oral examination without preparation may be conducted.
One copy is handed in to the supervisor.
