In the final evaluation it will be taken into account to what extent the student:
- demonstrates knowledge of the main trends in recent East European history;
- is able to analyse historical issues relevant to Eastern Europe;
- demonstrates historical and theoretical knowledge of communism as an ideology and a form of political rule;
- is able to put specific events in a historical and regional perspective
The objective of this discipline is to provide the student with knowledge of the history of Eastern Europe, including Russia and the Soviet Union from the First World War until today. Particular emphasis is placed on nation and state formation, the experience of war and revolution, the character and evolution of Communist rule in the Soviet Union and after 1945 also in the rest of the region, the reasons for the eventual demise of this rule, and the complicated processes of political and social transformation after 1989-91.
