E EMB1 Embedded Technology 1 ( efterår 2011 - 15 ECTS )

Rammer for udbud

  • Uddannelsessprog: engelsk (eller dansk)
  • Niveau: Bachelor of Science
  • Semester/kvarter: 3rd semester
  • Timer per uge: Approx. 12
  • Deltagerbegrænsning: 30 students
  • Undervisningssted: Herning
  • Hovedområde: Det Samfundsvidenskabelige Fakultet
  • Udbud ID: 26083

Formål

The aim of the course is to enable the student to analyse, design and implement an embedded design consisting of analogue-, digital- and PC-based parts interacting with one another.

Furthermore, the student will participate in the collective subject in methodology, where the aim is to develop the methodology awareness of the student in relation to assignment work.

Such a systematic working and problem-solving method is important for the report and project writing during the student's entire educational course.

In this course, 2.5 ECTS points are used on theory of science and methodology.

The main focus is the following points:

  • Theory of science
  • Scientific methodology - light
  • The strengths and limits in the methods of engineering.

Indhold

  • EUDP - Embedded Unified Development Process . EUDP is a practical development method and is, therefore, taught best by completing a project although short introductions will be offered at suitable times.
  • UML Notation - the standardised Unified Modelling Language is introduced.
  • Platform Architecture Design - includes the hardware and software design theory and considerations in order to establish a well-suited platform for development as well as final deployment. Includes selection of hardware and software components.
  • Advanced Object Oriented Programming (C++)
  • Programming for the embedded world (C)
  • Static and dynamic optimisation of the code
  • Establishing the embedded software platform (boot loader, root file system, binutils, and user programs)
  • Hardware Design - includes Microcontroller systems design, Effective Embedded System Design using Integrated Software Environment and Embedded Development Tools and Intellectual Property (IP), PSpice- and VHDL-simulation, circuit design and documentation, test (incl. EMC/ESD) and PCB-lay out.
  • Semiconductor theory
  • Diodes
  • Transistors
  • Operation amplifiers
  • Applied circuit theory
  • Control theory
  • Prototyping

Concerning the methodology work, the following will be in focus:

Based on a specific problem area, the student will be trained in preparing a clear problem formulation and in operationalising it in a series of issues to be explored. The student will be trained in identifying relevant analysing methods in order to clarify the problem and prepare proposals for the choice of research design.

The teaching will at the beginning take place as theory teaching in the form of a double lesson where the basic scientific method is introduced. This is followed by a virtual process partly in form of self-tuition but with the possibility of academic communication with both the teacher and fellow students.
