Formål

The aim is that the student through this course becomes able to
• identify and explain motivations for trade, effects of trade policy and trade liberalizations, distributional consequences of trade, trade policy, and trade liberalizations
• explain and analyze the organizational decisions of firms in the global economy
• explain central mechanisms in the covered trade models
• compare, contrast, and relate different trade models to each other
• reflect on the importance of assumptions and model structure for model results, and to evaluate how this affects the generality and applicability of the results
• reflect on the consequences of adding new features to known trade models

 

Indhold

This course covers most recent research in international trade theory including topics of classic trade theory, the organization of firms in the global economy, firm heterogeneity in export behavior, trade policies and welfare consequences, trade liberalization, gains from trade, political economy of trade policy, structural dynamic adjustment in response to trade liberalization, and growth. The course will bring students to the forefront of knowledge in international trade and prepare them to read state of the art research papers and to undertake research of their own.
