The text books for this course are Dirven/Verspoor: Cognitive Exploration of language and Linguistics, Ungerer/Schmid: An Introduction to Cognitive Linguistics, and Tomasello: The Cultural Origins of Human Cognition. The first part of the course will deal with frame semantics, categorization, word meanings, and schematization. The last issue is related to the idea of syntactic forms as constructions based on event schemas and from there we move into language acquisition and the role of language in the development of cognitive skills.
