This module will give students the opportunity to explore and understand contemporary education policy. Its main theoretical premise is that, under the conditions of Europeanisation and globalisation, education policy is no longer an exclusive affair of the nation-state. Nor is it, however, an inter-national issue, as there are not any more clearly demarcated policy boundaries between nation-states. Most countries in the world are today part of a trans-national structure, comprising of nation-states, international organizations, inter-state unions, regional and local governments, governmental, non-governmental agencies and markets, which, through networking technologies, makes directly or indirectly policies about a wide variety of areas, including education.
The module will thus explore education policy in this transnational space and its repercussions for economy, citizenship and identity. Attention will be paid to the educational agendas of selected institutions and organizations which have prominent role in this space. Examples include: the European Union, its agenda ‘Europe 2020', a successor of Lisbon Strategy, and its policies for innovation, Higher Education reform and Lifelong Learning; the OECD and its performance measurements in compulsory and adult education; and the World Bank and its ‘Knowledge for Development' Programme'. The potential emergence of ‘global citizenship' and its educational dimensions will be also addressed as well as its consequences for identity formation. Finally, apart from drawing heavily on the empirical picture on global policy making, the module will also investigate the impact of these developments on the theory of education policy.
Tilvagsfaget udbydes også til udenlandske studerende, og undervisningen vil derfor foregå på engelsk. Studerende vil dog kunne anmode om at få vejledning på dansk og aflevere eksamensoplæg på dansk.
