Aims
This course is expected to give the student an insight into the principles and the applications of common measurement and evaluation methods in enzyme catalyzed reactions.
Contents
Principles of enzyme catalysis. This includes transition state theory, principles of catalysis, basic equations of enzyme kinetics, steady state and pre-steady state kinetics, irreversible and reversible enzyme inhibition, enzymatic rate constants, rate determining processes, practical methods for kinetics and equilibria, plotting kinetic data, determination of intermediates in enzymatic reactions, use of binding energy in catalysis, enzyme specificity, editing or proofreading mechanism and the cost of accuracy.
Bachelor courses in biochemistry (corresponding to "Almen biokemi", "Fysisk biokemi" and "Videregående biokemi")
