Ved bedømmelsen af prøvepræstationen vil der blive lagt vægt på i hvor høj grad den studerende:
This course aims to provide an introduction to some key literatures related to social movements that touch upon questions such as
- When and why do social movements occur?
- How are social movements organised?
- And, what changes do movements bring about?
This literature is supplemented with ethnographic readings from Latin America and India to provide anthropological insights and case studies that help answering the questions posed above.
A particular case study, that of the Dalit Movement in India, will be the main anthropological focus of this course. In studying this movement, the course literature will include readings on caste, the state (affirmative action), corruption and specific Dalit related ethnographies. Through an exploration into what it means to be a Dalit in contemporary India and the multitude ways in which Dalits organise themselves to resist caste oppression and marginalisation from the Indian State, the course will touch upon issues related to agency and grassroots activism in rural India in particular.
