Formål

The course introduces the student to basic methods for analyzing and processing digital images. The techniques include quality improvement, image restoration, noise reduction and compression of digital images. The course will furthermore familiarize the student with morphology and pattern recognition. The course provides understanding of basic principles as well as practical skills in image processing.

Læringsmål

At the end of the course, the student is expected being capable to:

  • Explain basic 2D-signal processing techniques for quality improvement of digital images
  • Explain basic 2D-signal processing techniques for recreating digital images and removing noise in digital images
  • Explain basic 2D-signal processing techniques for segmentation of digital images
  • Apply morphological methods image processing
  • Explain basic 2D-signal processing principles and techniques for compression of digital images
  • Explain basic 2D-signal processing principles and techniques for pattern recognition in digital images
  • Develop small systems for processing and analyzing digital images

  • 2D transformation of images (spatial as well as frequency domain based techniques)
  • Image improvement methods including various filtering methods
  • Image restoring including LMS methods
  • Image segmentation methods
  • Morphology
  • Image compression methods including JPEG and MPEG (DVD)
  • Pattern recognition methods
