LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The learning objectives are that the participants of this course should be able to
• describe and do simple statistical tests of population parameters based on one and two samples under different distribution assumptions
• do simple graphical test of normality (diagnostics)
• describe and evaluate confidence intervals for population parameters based on one and two samples under different distribution assumptions
• describe and evaluate goodness-of-fit tests on one-dimensional and two-dimensional contingency tables
• formulate a simple or multiple linear regression model for business or economics data and do estimation of the parameters
• apply hypothesis testing concerning the parameters of the regression model and derive forecasts based on the regression model
• evaluate the fit of the regression model by plots of residuals (diagnostics)
• apply their own simple statistical analysis on data describing a business problem.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course gives an introduction to statistical methods and data analysis with special relation to business applications.COURSE SUBJECT AREAS:
Scientific communication, rhetoric, discourse analysis, genre theory, writing and argumentation theory.
COURSE SUBJECT AREAS:
1. Theory of estimation and testing hypotheses, revisited
2. Applied estimation and testing hypotheses
3. Tests for comparing two populations
4. Analysis of qualitative data
5. Linear regression analysis.
REQUIRED COURSES (progression):
Principles of Statistics
