M6 Teknologi til begrænsning af gas-emissioner fra husdyrproduktion ( forår 2010 - 10 ECTS )

Rammer for udbud

  • Uddannelsessprog: engelsk
  • Niveau: Graduate course. Obligatory (Environmental)
  • Semester/kvarter: 3rd + 4th Quarter (spring)
  • Timer per uge: 7 hours per week lectures, exercise and project work.
  • Deltagerbegrænsning: None
  • Undervisningssted: Århus
  • Hovedområde: Det Naturvidenskabelige Fakultet
  • Udbud ID: 23990

Formål

The purpose of this course is to achieve competences for selection and evaluation of abatement technologies for livestock production. The students will gain understanding of a number of environmental technologies relevant for agriculture, but also used in other sectors.

Indhold

•State of the art regarding agricultural production, manure management and utilization of the nutrient content of livestock manure

•Introduction to abatement technologies regarding emissions of odour, ammonia and greenhouse gases from livestock houses, manure storage facilities and from land applied manure. Technologies to be covered include:

  • Biological air filtration (biofilters, bioscrubbers)
  • Chemical air treatment
  • Anaerobic digestion in relation to emission reduction
  • Solid-liquid separation
  • Soil injection of manure
  • Oxidation of manure

•Introduction to measuring systems and analytic equipment available for measuring emissions of gases from livestock production

•Introduction to methodologies for documentation of efficiency, cost and energy consumption

Faglige forudsætninger

Course: Measuring Technique for mechanical systems, gases, liquids

The course Emissions from Livestock Production should be followed simultaneously in the first quarter of the semester.

Læringsmål

Pass of this course will make the student able to:

  • Classify the environmental impacts of gaseous emissions from livestock production
  • Describe available treatment technologies for reduction of emissions from livestock houses, slurry storage and land application
  • Classify treatment technologies with respect to relevance for specific pollutants and sources
  • Explain important processes in selected treatment technologies for reduction of emissions
  • Explain and compare available methods for documentation of efficiency
  • Analyze and compare selected technologies for specific purposes with respect to efficiency, cost and resource consumption
  • Select and discuss new technologies and management systems that potentially reduce the emissions of polluting gases from livestock production and from animal wastes

Studieordning og bedømmelse

Kandidatuddannelsen i biosystemteknologi

  • Hj.opg. + Mdt., bedømt efter 7-skala med ekstern censur

Approval is a combination of 3 written reports 8-10 pages and oral examination. One report is worked out in groups of 3-5 students, and two are done individually. Each student specifies the contribution to the reports.

The grade will be based on the last written report and oral examination for 30 minutes, equally weighted. The report will be included in the oral exam.

Extern examiner, the Danish 7-point grade scale.
