The objective of this course is to give an orientation on cultural developments in the Western world in the 19th and 20th centuries. What are the central changes in the values and world-images of people in the last 200 years? Hereby the students will acquire a better understanding for their own society and way of life. They will also be given a brief survey of currents and themes in modern cultural history, such as historical anthropology, poststructuralism, New Cultural History and conceptual history. In addition, students will through pratices get some training in performing cultural analyses using a historical material.
