How do children learn a language? This course starts with some intensive practical work, during which we analyze small corpora of child language from a lexical, semantic, grammatical and pragmatic point of view. Those experiences will provide students with better insights in the more theoretical and generalizing questions afterwards. Existing Danish and English materials will be treated, and students are encouraged to collect material themselves. Methodological questions, theoretical discussions and connections with other disciplines will be dealt with. Emphasis will be on first language acquisition, but second language acquisition, language development disorders and acquisition in different circumstances (deafness, blindness, multilingualism, twins) may also be treated.
