This course concerns advanced applications of quantum field theory in condensed matter physics. It is aimed both at theorists and experimentalists. The lectures will cover the central theory. During the problem classes, the students will give short presentations on research topics, perhaps articles, which they have chosen themselves.
The Feynman path integral and functional integrals for bosons and fermions, broken symmetry and phase transitions, the renormalisation group, the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition, topological insulators and other topics chosen by students.
Knowledge of many-body theory at the level of the course "Introductory Many-Body Physics".
