Indhold

Within the cross cultural understanding:

Working in a global cultural setting is a highly complex task affected by numerous understandings of culture both as individual, social and national bounded values, behaviour and skills.

Through the course central debates on the concept of culture as well as how to approach diverse cultures in an organizational and international context will be outlined. The subject will be introduced in the light of both managerial and social science approaches and theories. Furthermore, case material will illustrate solutions of cultural conflicts and constructive understanding and communication across cultures which can be incorporated in working procedures.

Special attention will be on:

  1. The concept of culture
  2. National and global culture
  3. Organizational culture
  4. Intercultural communication and interaction
  5. Management of cultural skills

To describe the implications of cross- cultural understanding both theories and empirical case- material will be presented. Through group work and practical classroom exercises, the students will gain an insight to the implications of cross cultural behaviour and decision-making and central debates of the area.

Within the global business:

The world is a smaller place to do business in; even small or medium-sized companies are sourcing and selling their products and services on a global basis. Trade between widely dispersed parts of the world continues to grow, both for products and services. Considerable opportunities have emerged for business managers to develop both supplier and customer relationships in new parts of the world. This development is at the time challenging and full of potential problems.

Even small and medium-sized companies could have an international dimension, and the question is how to handle this dimension.
