The aim of the course is to develop the student's understanding of communicating in English for science and technology. This includes knowledge about genres for science and technology and the conventions in terms of style and syntax related to the individual genres. In addition, it includes analysis of communication situations as one of the tools to produce and adapt texts according to their intended audiences and purposes, e.g. from the printed medium to internet communication (content writing).
Course background:
The course builds on the knowledge acquired in the first five semesters from all previous courses in communication of the ICM study programme or their equivalents.
THE CENTRAL ISSUES OF THE COURSE:
The aim of the course is to introduce the student to the discipline of English for science and technology with focus on different technical/scientific subjects and text genres. The student will acquire knowledge of the characteristics of selected genres as well as practical experience in how to produce texts for a specific audience and a specific purpose within science and technology.
With focus on different technical and scientific subjects and text genres, the student will produce texts as well as prepare and present subjects and text types for various audiences.

Bachelor's project:
Students may choose to write their Bachelor's project in this subject either individually or in groups. The project may be based on a company or a product/service within the field of science and technology.

Teaching may take the form of tutorials with discussions and application of relevant theory as well as group work, presentations and lectures. During the course the student will practise in producing various text genres, prepare and give presentations, and hand in a number of assignments individually and in groups.
