Formål

The objects of the lectures are that the students after having participated in the lectures can:

  • state the fundamental concepts of EU law
  • account for the content of the general rules of EU law
  • explain the significance of case law and administrative practice
  • discuss different solutions of general EU law problems and - with application of relevant theoretical views - give grounds for a conclusion
  • subsume facts legally under application of EU rules and principles
  • document fulfilment of the learning objectives by presenting the subjects of EU law in a clear and precise legal language.

Indhold

The course aims to provide an understanding of the legal framework established by the Treaty on the European Union. It concerns mainly the institutions of the European Communities and will mix chronological and thematic analysis in order to provide a critique of the European Union´s constitutional and administrative legal order. Selected topics will be studied in depth:

  • The structure and functions of the Community Institutions
  • Sources of community law
  • Legal base and institutional balance, delegation and implied powers
  • The status and enforcement of community law in the member states
  • Judicial review of community legislation and administrative action

Active student participation is expected.

Inter-active lectures and group discussions. Students will be encouraged to make presentations on selected topics and judgements relevant to the course.
