This course looks at the general international regulation of trade marks, with an emphasis on the EU trade mark and selected jurisdictions, including England, France, Germany and the USA
The aim of the course is that students who follow the course should:
The course covers creation, maintenance and enforcement of trade marks rights, at both national - UK, US, Germany and France - level and at international level covering e.g. EU directives and regulations, TRIPS, Paris convention, Madrid etc.
The fundamental policies and economics underpinning trade marks law are examined as well as basic issues in trade marks law such as registration, scope of protection and remedies.
It is NOT a requirement for students to have prior knowledge of trade marks law.
Students will - to a wide extent - be allowed to decide on which areas of trade marks law special emphasis should be made, thereby influencing structures and content of examinations.

Handouts on all subjects will be available for students. Subjects will be discussed at class, and students are encouraged to participate actively during the course.
English (examination in - each student´s choice). As most students are probably not native English speakers, special glossary relating to trade marks law will be thoroughly explained during the course.
At examinations emphasis will be made on content, NOT on English abilities.
