Formål

The student should be able to:

  • Analyse and reflect upon what determines economic evolution
  • Analyse and reflect upon what has been characteristic of economic activity at different points of time
  • Analyse and reflect upon the relevance of a historical perspective for contemporary business strategy

 

Indhold

This course is intended to provide an overview of the international economic history since 1870. Students will get an understanding of what has been recurrent and what has been specific in the economic evolution international (and in Denmark). The course will take place as lectures and discussions.

COURSE SUBJECT AREAS:
The textbook has a chronological structure dividing the years since 1870 into three eras. Each era is structured along the same lines. The subject areas of the course will follow the structure of the textbook.

For each of the eras 1870-1914, 1914-1945 and 1945-2010 economic growth, sectoral developments, business cycles, demography and living standards will be discussed supplementing the textbook when necessary or useful with Danish examples.
